What You'll Learn in the AWS Cloud Foundations Path

By the end of this path, you'll have practical cloud skills backed by real infrastructure you built yourself.

🌎

Understand AWS Infrastructure

Regions, Availability Zones, edge locations, and how AWS global infrastructure powers cloud applications.

🔒

Secure Your Cloud

Master IAM users, roles, policies, permission boundaries, and cross-account access patterns.

🖥

Build Real Networks

Design VPCs with public and private subnets, configure routing tables, and set up security groups.

🗃

Master S3 Storage

Versioning, lifecycle policies, cross-region replication, static hosting, and VPC endpoints.

💻

Launch Compute

Provision EC2 instances, connect via SSH, automate setup with User Data scripts, and manage state.

🏆

Deploy a Capstone

Bring it all together in a multi-tier AWS deployment that proves your cloud skills.

7-Step AWS Learning Journey (Beginner to Cloud-Ready)

Each step builds on the last. Follow the path in order for the best learning experience.

1

Core AWS Foundations

Start here. Learn how AWS is structured globally — Regions, Availability Zones, edge locations — and understand cloud adoption fundamentals before touching any services.

📚 2 Courses 📖 1 Article ⏲ ~3 hours
2

Networking & VPC

Build your first Virtual Private Cloud. Understand subnets, route tables, internet gateways, and security groups — the networking backbone every AWS service depends on.

📚 1 Course 🛠 1 Workshop ⏲ ~3 hours 🎓 Certificate
3

Identity & Access Management

The gatekeeper of every AWS account. Master IAM users, groups, roles, policies, permission boundaries, role assumption, and cross-account access through 1 interactive article and 4 labs.

📖 1 Article 🛠 4 Workshops ⏲ ~2.5 hours 🎓 4 Certificates
4

S3 & Storage

Dive into Amazon S3 — the backbone of AWS storage. Learn versioning, cross-region replication, public access controls, static website hosting, lifecycle policies, and VPC endpoints.

🛠 5 Workshops ⏲ ~2.5 hours 🎓 5 Certificates
5

Compute — EC2

Launch your first virtual server. Provision EC2 instances, connect via SSH, configure security groups, automate with User Data scripts, and understand instance lifecycle.

🚧 Coming Soon ⏲ ~3 hours
6

Architecture Foundations

Learn to think in systems. Explore architectural patterns, the AWS Well-Architected Framework, data architecture concepts, and how to design for reliability and cost efficiency.

🚧 Coming Soon ⏲ ~3 hours

Prerequisites for Starting AWS Training

You don't need AWS experience. Here's what will help:

Before You Begin

  • Basic computer and web browsing familiarity
  • An AWS account (Free Tier — should cover most of the labs)
  • All labs are real recorded labs and no simulations. Watch, understand, learn and practice in your account
  • Always delete resources at the end of the lab activity in your account
  • Willingness to follow along and build things yourself
  • 5–10 hours per week recommended
  • No prior cloud or DevOps experience needed

AWS Cloud Foundations Path – Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the AWS Cloud Foundations Path.

Who can access this learning path? +
Founding Members & Premium Members can access this path, any existing learning paths and any future learning paths that we create.
What are Hands-on Labs? +
All labs are recorded, real-world activities — not simulations. You will need your own AWS account to follow along and practice. After completing each lab, always delete or disable any services you created to avoid unnecessary AWS charges.
How long does the full path take? +
The completed steps (1–4) contain approximately 12+ hours of content. The full 7-step path will be 20+ hours. At 5–10 hours per week, most learners complete the available content in 2–3 weeks.
Do I need to follow the steps in order? +
Strongly recommended. Each step builds on concepts from previous steps. For example, IAM (Step 3) references VPC concepts from Step 2, and S3 workshops (Step 4) use IAM roles you learned in Step 3.
Will I get certificates? +
Yes. Each hands-on workshop awards a certificate upon completion. By the end of Step 4, you'll have earned 9+ certificates covering VPC, IAM, and S3 skills.
When will Steps 5–7 be available? +
Steps 5 (EC2 Compute), 6 (Architecture), and 7 (Capstone) are actively being developed. Start with Steps 1–4 now — by the time you complete them, the next steps will be ready.
Does this prepare me for the AWS certification exam? +
This path focuses on practical, hands-on skills rather than exam prep. However, the foundational knowledge you build here — IAM, VPC, S3, EC2, and architecture — directly maps to the AWS Cloud Practitioner and Solutions Architect Associate exam domains.
